It is not sweet but very fragrant. There is a metal inner lid under the plastic lid to seal it and prevent it from getting damp. Because of the black glutinous rice flour, the hot water needs to be added slowly to prevent it from clumping. I bought it to supplement calcium, so I also added two spoons of black sesame powder (Zhi Chu, also from Taiwan, also sugar-free) to increase flavor and nutrition.
