Soapberry primarily grows in the low-altitude secondary forests of Taiwan. Its peel contains a high concentration of natural saponin, which releases natural detergents when mixed with water. Before chemical products were invented, the older generation used to collect soapberry fruits from the trees.

They would rub the peels with water to create plant-based foam. The rich saponin formed dense bubbles, which were used for cleaning the body and other purposes while also providing antibacterial effects.

Use
