Product specificity

This tea is grown in Hoshino village in Yame City Ward in Shizuoka Prefecture. Nature is dense here, and this area is renowned for producing high quality gyokuro, matcha and sencha.

The smell of fresh grass and its roundness on the palate make it an exceptional sencha. It is a very soft and pleasant tea in the mouth.

This Sencha was produced by Hoshino Green Tea Association.

About Hoshino

The village is located in the southeastern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, called Okuyame, within Yame City Ward. This area is also known for its high altitude creating a variation in temperature between day and night. This area is also known for its beautiful night sky and landscapes. You can sometimes see the mist coming up the river and lets glimpse some rays of sun in the valley.

These meteorological and geographical conditions cause the tea fields to be naturally covered and thus cancel the transformation of amino acids (umami component) into catechins (astringent component), making the tea even more delicious and sweet.

It is highly regarded for its quality and has won numerous awards over the years in various tea competitions, including the "Emperor's Cup", the highest distinction among agricultural awards. It has also won the "production area" prize in the Gyokuro category several times at the National Tea Competition. This award recognizes the qualities of the place and its culture.

In addition, Yame tea is only harvested during the first and second harvest, like the rest of Japan, where there is a third or even a fourth harvest.
