The color change is very subtle. I like how the dye mixture comes in 3 separate pouches so you can adjust the amount depending how much hair you have. I only used 1 pouch of (1) and (2) to try it out and it has no ammonia smell. The fragrance is similar to the Ryo shampoo - herbally and refreshing.
