[About Tsuboichi] Founded in Sakai in 1850 (Kaei 3), during the final days of the Edo period, Tsuboichi has been providing high-quality, fresh, safe, and affordable tea as "tea for everyday life," based on the belief that "tea connects people." Furthermore, based on the belief that tea contributes to health, Tsuboichi was one of the earliest tea manufacturers to independently develop deep-steamed tea and oolong tea, earning support not only from Sakai but from across the country. For over 170 years, Tsuboichi has continued to manufacture and sell tea, adapting to the changing times. Tsuboichi's origins date back to 1850 (Kaei 3), when Ichibei Tanimoto founded a tea wholesaler in Sakai, Senshu. When Kobe Port opened in 1868, the company expanded its business to the point where it opened a branch office, and by the early Meiji period, it was exporting tea from Kobe and Yokohama. It is also said that tea plantations were cultivated in the Enshu region around this time. This coincides with the time when Eiichi Shibusawa contributed to tea production and sales. During the period of rapid economic growth, tea consumption exploded, and domestic production could no longer meet demand. The fourth-generation head of the family, Yozo Tanimoto, was one of the first to import Taiwanese tea. This marked the beginning of the oolong tea boom in Japan. During the Heisei era, anticipating the increasing importance of food safety, we built a cutting-edge factory and obtained ISO certification. In February 2023, we obtained FSSC 22000, the international food safety management system certification. FSSC 22000 is the highest level of food safety certification, including many other standards such as ISO. To ensure the continued provision of safe products, Tsuboichi's food safety system has been further strengthened to meet global standards.
