Enjoy this nostalgic Japanese treat inspired by the flavors of mitarashi dango (みたらし団子)---Japanese rice dumplings coated in sweet soy sauce glaze. These chewy shiratama (rice flour) dumplings come with a sweet and savory soy sauce glaze made with specially aged soy sauce. Perfect for enjoying the cherished flavors of Japan's mitarashi dango.
Crafted by Echigo Shiratama, a Niigata-based maker specializing in rice-based confections that blend traditional techniques with a modern touch, these dumplings offer a soft, satisfying texture in every bite. A traditional treat, thoughtfully made for quiet moments with tea or as a light afternoon snack.
Directions (One Serving):
1. Place the shiratama mochi in a heat-resistant mug, and add 120 ml of water – enough to just cover the shiratama mochi.
2. Heat in the microwave at 500W for 2 minutes – 2 minutes 30 seconds. (You can also enjoy it boiled.)
3. Pour out the water, then transfer to cool water to chill.
4. Place the shiratama mochi in a bowl, and pour the included mitarashi syrup over it.
Note: Contains 2 servings.
