Nourishes Yin and nourishes blood, nourishes the heart and calms the nerves. It is used for heart yin deficiency, palpitations and forgetfulness, insomnia and dreaminess, and dry stool. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Heart controls the Blood and stores Shen (The Spirit). The Kidney is the source of Yin and Yang energy for the entire body, including the Heart. When the Heart function is weak with respect to Yin and Blood, Shen (The Spirit) does not rest well and causes restlessness, palpitations, and forgetfulness. One may also have difficulty staying asleep, be troubled by dreams, or (for men) suffer nocturnal emissions. Additionally, one may have warm and moist palms and soles, dry mouth, dry stool, or even mouth and tongue ulcers.
