So glad to find these low-sugar southern China Nian gao. Those who are Hokkien or Cantonese would know what these are. They are usually pan fried with a coating of egg. Nowadays I pan fry with egg and bread, like French toast but with a sticky Nian gao layer (see photo). The low-sugar is still sweet, can’t eat more than a slice per person.
This rice cake is low in sugar and can be eaten simply by cutting it into thin slices and frying it. It is very convenient

I bought two flavors of this New Year's cake, red bean and coconut. I think the red bean cake is tastier and one box is enough for me to eat three times. I wanted to repurchase it, but unfortunately I have to wait until the Lunar New Year a year later to eat it.
"You must eat rice cakes during the Chinese New Year, it's a good omen!" I bought this red bean rice cake for this purpose. According to the instructions on the box, cut it into pieces, wrap it with egg liquid, and fry it until it's soft. It has a strong red bean aroma and a soft, sweet taste. I don't eat sweets on weekdays, so it's quite good to eat it with black coffee and roasted peanuts!
