Description

Seongju in Gyeongsangbuk-do is the most famous place for chamoe (참외), Korean melon.  The town’s geography is ideal for sweet, high quality Korean melon as Seongju sits in a basin with abundant clean water and almost no winter fog.  Most of Korean melons that are exported are from the town. 

Yugwa 유과, a traditional Korean confection, is made with glutinous rice flour.  This snack is a deep-fried "rice puff" with a hollow inside, coated with clean sweet jocheong 조청 from the Korean melon.  It’s been a challenge to find an authentic yugwa outside Korea that is not covered with sugar or even chemical sweet.  Now Kim’C Market is delighted to introduce Chamoe Jocheong Yugwa that is coated with Seongju Chamoe jocheong.  This sweet snack is made of pesticide-free, 100% Korean rice and full of vitamins and folate.   

If you can ever stop eating this before finishing it to enjoy next time, you will find the zip-lock pouch is an additional blessing.  Keeping it in a refrigerator for 10 minutes would give you a very crunchy bite you will love.  

 

경상북도 성주는 참외의 대명사로 불리웁니다.  당도가 높고 품질 좋은 참외를 생산하기에 아주 알맞은 지형을 갖고 있어요.  수출하는 참외 대부분이 성주산일 정도에요.

우리의 전통과자 한과는 그동안 설탕이나 인위적으로 단맛을 낸, 무늬만 한과인 제품에 본 모습이 가려져 있는 경우가 많았어요.  특히 한국 밖에서 은은한 맛을 지닌, 진정한 한과를 찾기는 쉽지가 않지요.  그래서 100% 무농약 한국 쌀, 비타민과 엽산이 풍부한 성주 참외 조청으로 단맛을 낸, 보기 드물게 맛있고 건강한 한과를 만나 무척 기뻤답니다.

포장 윗부분은 지퍼형태여서 오랫동안 드실 수가 있어요.  그냥 드셔도 되지만 냉장고에 10분 정도 넣었다가 드시면 바삭바삭한 식감이 더 느껴져요.  한 번에 드시기엔 큰 사이즈이지만 긴 여운이 느껴지는 참외의 단맛과 진정한 한과를 찾았다는 기쁨에 중간에 지퍼를 닫기가 쉽지 않을 거에요.
