It is a plant of the leguminous plant Abrus pulchellus subsp. cantoniensis The dried whole plant of (Hance) Verdc. is sweet, slightly bitter and cool. It has the effects of relieving dampness and jaundice, clearing away heat and detoxifying , soothing the liver and relieving pain. It is often used for damp-heat jaundice, rib discomfort, stomach distension and pain , and breast abscess.
