Introducing Tigak Tae Gak's red pepper crackers, which originated in Sokcho Jungang Market and are now a local specialty.
Tigaktae-gak is a dialect word for "tie-fighting," and the name is reminiscent of a tie-fight, with the crunchy, chewy texture of the red peppers.
The secret to the crispy texture is that the dried red peppers are coated with glutinous rice paste, aged, and then deep-fried in corn oil.
You can also add spicy seasoning to them to make them more appealing as a side dish. It's also a great addition to tteokbok or crab bibimbap.
