**How Chuanbei Treats Cough**
1. Chuanbei can be used with Radix Glehniae (Sha Shen), Radix Ophiopogonis (Mai Dong), and Rehmannia (Sheng Di) to nourish yin, moisten the lungs, resolve phlegm, and relieve cough. This combination is suitable for long-term cough due to lung dryness and yin deficiency. Paired with Anemarrhena (Zhi Mu), it is effective for cough caused by dryness and heat.
2. Combining Chuanbei with Scutellaria (Huang Qin) and loquat leaves can clear heat, resolve phlegm, and relieve cough, which is suitable for cough caused by phlegm heat.
3. If there is phlegm-fire accumulation, Chuanbei can be combined with Scrophularia (Xuan Shen) and oyster shell (Mu Li) to help soften hardness and dissipate nodules.
4. To enhance the effect of detoxification and reducing swelling, Chuanbei can be paired with dandelion, forsythia (Lian Qiao), and honeysuckle (Jin Yin Hua).
5. Eating Chuanbei with snow pear, rock sugar, or honey can further enhance its effects in resolving phlegm, relieving cough, moistening the lungs, and nourishing yin. This is because rock sugar is cooling, and honey has lung-moistening properties. Additionally, it can also be paired with red pear and white grass (Bai Mao).
