I've been hooked on super-premium fresh-milled Japanese rice from The Rice Factory, but at $20 for 5 lbs, it was quite expensive and these are lean times. I bought Tamaki Gold because it promised high quality and fresh taste. The grains are very short, almost broken rice-like. The flavor is neutral, it tastes like nothing, almost surprisingly bland. It doesn't taste fresher or more flavorful despite the nitrogen flush and packaging. I don't think it's anywhere near as good as The Rice Factory but the price is good for a rice that isn't the star of your meal.
