Has the right amount of sugar so it’s crispy on the outside when you dip it in egg and cook it in a skillet
It's small, just the right size for one person.
Tasty brown sugar rice cake, we slice it and fry with sweet potatoes!
A little sweet, but not too greasy, good to eat fried or steamed

So glad to find these low-sugar southern China Nian gao. Those who are Hokkien or Cantonese would know what these are. They are usually pan fried with a coating of egg. Nowadays I pan fry with egg and bread, like French toast but with a sticky Nian gao layer (see photo). The low-sugar is still sweet, can’t eat more than a slice per person.
